When did you join Expleo?

October 2023.

How was your first day at Expleo?

Seamless. I went to the office, and we had our induction, which really delved into the details of the business. I also got my laptop, my phone, and everything else that I needed. My login worked perfectly, so it was a beautiful surprise and something I hadn’t experienced before, so it was seamless.

What’s a typical day in the life of a a Change Manager like?

Typically, at the start of the day, I would have a stand-up with my clients, where we come together and talk about what we’re doing for the day and week ahead. I also have weekly change management service and leadership team meetings.

I’m also building out the change management service in Ireland. I have regular meetings and catch-ups where we come together to do that. In the afternoon, I generally get stuck into client work and conduct workshops and planning. Before the end of the day, I’d generally go out to the client site or keep working from home. At the end of the day, I do some cost planning and map out what I need to do for the next day.

Once a month, I go to the office to connect with my team and colleagues and come together as a change management team. Everybody is collaborating, working together, and sharing stories.

What about Expleo do you enjoy the most?

The culture, the leadership, the engagement and the opportunities that have been provided to me so far. I‘ve been given a lot of support to explore different opportunities within Expleo by leading and developing training courses and working on tenders. I also enjoy the variety of projects, and I appreciate the trust I have from the leadership team.

What do you like most about your job?

What I truly enjoy as a Change Manager is getting into the detail about how to support people in adopting change and exploring the different ways of working, engaging, and communicating. That excites me as well as working sidebyside with the client and trying to understand how they work, what their landscape is and mapping out how we can get our programmes across the line.

How did Expleo help you grow your career?

Expleo helped me develop my skills through Expleo Academy, something that I didn’t think I would do or enjoy, but I found it engaging. We’ve been given ownership to deliver the change management fundamentals course, working with Learning & Development in South Africa, the Netherlands, and the UK. This is something I’ve explored over the last 12 months, and I didn’t think I would be able to do something like this, and I’ve been given a lot of guidance and assistance to build confidence in doing that.

Do you think Expleo is a great place to work and if so why?

Yes, I do think it’s a great place to work, with a good culture and I think the people play a significant part in that. The Irish team works hard to create a great sense of camaraderie and community, and I think you really need that when you’re working with a client. The Expleo community in Ireland is strong and that’s something that I really value.

Can you summarise what the Expleo’ Employer Brand pillars mean to you?

  • Autonomy & Support
There’s trust from the leaders to do my work. If I need anything, I can go to them for assistance. I know there’s an open-door policy there, and they’ll help me if I need anything.
  • Local & International
There’s a very strong local community within Ireland, but we know that we can lean on our global colleagues when we need to.
  • Expertise & Creativity
Something that stands out within Expleo is that everything we do and strive for in the change management service is about being the leaders in our field, but also trying to be creative and do something different and exciting.
  • Performance & Responsibility
It’s up to me to make my role my own, and I need to lead that and take responsibility for my career. But I know I’ve got that support from the Expleo team as well as the help to develop myself within the business.

What advice would you give to other change managers considering applying to Expleo?

If you’re looking for a company that trusts you, enables you to develop, explore new things, and be a little bit different, then you should apply to Expleo.

What is your name and your role and how long have you been working at Expleo?

This year I’m celebrating my 12th year at Expleo. I started my career at Expleo as a Quality Auditor contractor, and then was offered a Staff position in the Life Cycle Management team, where I became a Deputy Team Lead, after which there was another promotion opportunity to an Engineering Manager, and later I was able to join our Marine division where I currently work.

Where and how long did you serve in the armed forces?

I served in the Air Force just shy of 25 years. I started my career as an Aero Engines Mechanic. My first posting was at Brize Norton working on VC 10s, Tri Stars & Hercules Aircraft. Then I went on to a technician’s course and became a Junior Technician, and then progressed into a leadership position as a Sergeant. I left the Air Force as a Senior Non-commissioned Officer.

What challenges did you have after leaving the Armed Forces?

My main challenge was worrying about Job Security. My manager was very supportive when I was still a contractor at Expleo and he transferred me over from contractor to permanent staff. I remember the conversation I had with him about the opportunities for secure job security and promotion.

And he said: “At Expleo, opportunities are out there for you, so go and get them”. And he was right, there are plenty of opportunities at Expleo. You just have to seize them. And every time I saw an opportunity at Expleo, I just went for it.

I transferred a lot of my skills over to Expleo. For instance, the aircraft and engine experience, experience in fault diagnosis, and more in-depth engineering project management and of course my leadership & Management Skills

How did Expleo help you to transition into your civilian job?

I found it quite an easy transition, as there were a lot of ex-forces colleagues within Expleo when I joined, some of which I knew already. For those that didn’t have a military background they were equally as welcoming.

How do you feel Expleo allows you to use your expertise you gained during your service?

Expleo gave me the freedom to use my transferable skills that I gained in the Air Force. My manager and colleagues had an open mindset for my ideas. I could bring those ideas into the office and illustrate how they could be implemented within a business setting They very much welcomed my ideas about improvements, and there is always an open environment for sharing ideas and previous knowledge. I also completed an Expleo Leadership Management course, which differed to the one I had in the Air Force. Combining the two gave me a much more rounded leadership and management mindset.

How do you connect with other members of the Armed Forces Community at Expleo?

I participate in careers transition workshops supporting recruiters. When Ex-Forces are looking for a new career, I attend the workshops chatting to the Armed Forces community sharing my experience and what I have learned.

What advice would you give to other members of the Armed Forces Community who are planning to join Expleo?

Expleo has many different opportunities, whether it be leadership management, various jobs in engineering, project management etc. Don’t think that you don’t have the skill set to join Expleo. It is within you; you do have those skills and Expleo can bring out these skills in people.
