Can you tell us about your background and what led you to pursue a career in STEM?
I studied Economics, with a focus on Econometrics, which I found fascinating because it brought in the statistical side of economics. What drew me to this field was the ability to debate and explore multiple sides of an argument using data. This analytical approach gave me a foundation for understanding complex issues from different perspectives, and it was this data-driven method of problem-solving that sparked my interest in pursuing a career in STEM.
What has been your biggest challenge as a woman in STEM?
In my early career, I worked in male-dominated teams, which presented challenges around self-advocacy and making sure my voice was heard. These experiences taught me valuable lessons in standing up for myself and communicating effectively. However, I’ve been very fortunate to work with incredible leaders, many of whom were female, who truly understood the challenges of working in STEM—not just from a female perspective. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is the importance of working for or with the right people—leaders who create an inclusive environment and support personal and professional growth.
