Can you tell us about your background and what led you to pursue a career in STEM?
I’ve been working in the tech field for several years now. I specialise in Robotic Process Automation (RPA), where we create bots that replace manual tasks people usually do on their computers. For example, if you’re working in Excel, typing in some calculations, we can create a bot that does it for you. This frees up time for people to focus on more creative tasks, like analysis, while the bot handles repetitive, rule-based work.
I’ve always been interested in technology and problem-solving, which led me to this career. My role as a developer is all about creating these bots, automating processes, and improving efficiency. It’s something I enjoy because it combines my technical skills with the ability to make a real impact on businesses and the people who use these tools.
What has been your biggest challenge as a woman in STEM?
I’ve been lucky in my career, but I’ve seen how women can face challenges in this field, particularly with the gender gap in technical roles. In my experience, it’s all about confidence—having the belief in yourself to take on tough projects and not shy away from opportunities because you think they might not be for you. It’s important to show that women can thrive just as much in STEM roles as men can.
What attracted you to join Expleo, and how has your experience been so far?
I joined Expleo because I wanted to work for a global company that offered diverse projects across various industries. Expleo’s reputation for innovation and its commitment to upskilling their employees really stood out to me. So far, it’s been a great experience—Expleo has provided me with countless opportunities to learn, grow, and develop my skills further, particularly in emerging technologies like AI and cloud computing.
How has Expleo supported your professional growth and development within STEM?
Expleo has given me the chance to work with cutting-edge technologies and has supported me in continuous learning. I’ve been able to take various training courses and certifications through platforms like Expleo Academy, and the encouragement to push for professional certifications has really helped me advance. Expleo’s focus on personal development has played a big role in my growth, and I’m excited to keep progressing.
Can you describe a particularly rewarding project or achievement you've had while working at Expleo?
A particularly rewarding project for me was developing automation solutions for a large client. It involved designing and implementing bots that streamlined their internal processes, improving efficiency and reducing human error. Seeing the bots work seamlessly, saving time, and ultimately helping the team focus on more critical tasks was incredibly satisfying. I’m also involved in learning new skills around digital transformation, especially in moving systems to the cloud, which is an area I’m excited about.
How would you describe the company culture at Expleo, particularly in terms of inclusivity and support for women in STEM?
Expleo’s culture is incredibly supportive and inclusive. I’m part of the Women@Expleo group, where we meet regularly to discuss challenges and share advice. The company genuinely encourages women to pursue STEM careers and provides an open platform for us to share our experiences. I’ve felt valued and supported by my colleagues, and this culture makes a real difference in how we grow professionally.
How do you see your future at Expleo, and what are your career aspirations within the company?
For now, I’m really enjoying the technical side of my role, and I’d love to continue developing my skills in RPA and other emerging technologies. I’ve been working in this field for nearly eight years, and I aim to keep expanding my knowledge while contributing to impactful projects. I’m not drawn to leadership positions, as I prefer the technical aspects of my work, but I’d love to become a technical expert and continue to grow in that direction.
What advice would you give to other women considering a career in STEM, especially those looking to join Expleo?
My advice would be to just go for it. There’s no reason why women can’t thrive in STEM—it’s an incredibly rewarding and secure field with a wealth of opportunities. Confidence is key—believe in yourself and your abilities. It’s not about gender; it’s about your skills and passion for the work. If you’re passionate about technology and problem-solving, this is the right path for you. At Expleo, women are supported every step of the way, and there are great opportunities for growth, so I’d encourage anyone thinking about it to take the leap.
